Discover heritage treasures of the Outaouais region while visiting the four corners of the region. The churches, real architectural gems, allow visitors to understand and relive the history of the region!

GATINEAU

Saint-Grégoire-de-Nazianze Church

  • Year of construction: 1887
  • Description: Located in the Buckingham sector, at 150 Maclaren East. It was partially destroyed by fire, and then rebuilt in 1920. Three of its walls date back to 1887. 

 Saint-François-de-Sales Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1886 and 1903
  • Description: This gothic style church is located at 799, Jacques-Cartier street in Gatineau. 

Saint-Paul Church

  • Year of construction: 1862
  • Description: Located at 61 du Couvent street, in the heart of the Aylmer sector. This neo-gothic style church probably features the richest and most complex exterior architecture of the Outaouais region.

Christ Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1876 and 1882
  • Description: Located at 101 Symmes street, in the Aylmer sector.

Saint-James Church

  • Year of construction: 1900
  • Description: Located at 60 Promenade du Portage in the Hull sector, it was rebuilt after being completely destroyed in the ''Great Hull fire''.

  

THE COLLINES-DE-L'OUTAOUAIS

Saint-Stephen Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1879 and 1882
  • Description: Located at 212 Old Chelsea road in Chelsea, its style is influenced by the neo-baroque architecture.

Church also referred to as Saint-John Chapel

  • Year of construction: Between 1881 and 1885
  • Description: Located in Quyon, at 1149 Clarendon street. In spite of its old age, this church is very well preserved.

THE PONTIAC

Saint-Alphonsus Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1885 and 1888
  • Description: Located at 106 Saint-Jacques street in Chapeau. It is perched on a high hill and can be seen from far away.

Saint-Andrew-Knox Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1904 and 1905
  • Description: Located in Brisol, at 71 chemin d’Aylmer, it is one of the most original churches of the Outaouais region, because of its gabled porch, its vaulted door and its three gothic windows on the front façade.

Saint-Élizabeth Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1890 and 1895
  • Description: This church is located in Campell’s Bay, at 16 de l’Église street. 

Saint-Andrew Church

  • Year of construction: 1890
  • Description: Located in Fort-Coulonge, at 207 Principale street. The businessman and politician George Bryson played a key role in the construction of this Presbyterian Church.

Church named Saint-Stephen Chapel

  • Year of construction: Between 1883 and 1886
  • Description: Authentic and well preserved, this church’s rustic look comes from the multicoloured stones from Greer Mount. It is located at 396 Greermount road in Thorne. 

Saint-Paul Church

  • Year of construction: 1886
  • Description: Located at 530 Main street in Shawville, this church features a clock, which gives it an original look.

LA LIÈVRE AND THE PETITE-NATION

Saint-André-Avellin Church

  • Year of construction: 1886
  • Description: Located at 8, Saint-André street in Saint-André-Avellin, this imposing church is a model of well executed and commanding architecture.

Saint-Félix-de-Valois Church

  • Year of construction: Between 1915 and 1916
  • Description: Located at 85, Principale street in Cheneville. This church features a neo-gothic style.

Sainte-Angélique Church

  • Year of construction: 1903
  • Description: This heritage church is located at 292, Papineau street in Papineauville. 

Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Church

  • Year of construction: 1895
  • Description: Located at 543, Notre-Dame street in Montebello, this church was built according to the blueprints of the architect Napoléon Bourassa, and Louis-Joseph Papineau’s son-in-law.

 THE VALLÉE-DE-LA-GATINEAU

 Saint-Gabriel Church

  • Year of construction: 1907
  • Description: Located in the town of Bouchette at 22, Principale street.

L’Assomption Church

  • Year of construction : Between 1868 and 1871
  • Description: Located in the heart of the town of Maniwaki at 326, du Couvent street.
